
What is a Youth Council?
Brixworth Parish Council’s Youth Council is a formal group of young people, aged 7 to 18, who come together to represent the interests, ideas, and concerns of youth within their local community. It serves as a bridge between young people and the Parish Council, ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes.
Brixworth Youth Council will be a youth-led initiative, supported by Brixworth Parish Council, and will provide young people with the opportunity to make a real impact in their community.
Brixworth Parish Council will:
- Encourage young people to get involved in local government
- Give youth a platform to voice their concerns and ideas
- Help shape the future of Brixworth with youth-led projects and initiatives
- Build leadership and teamwork skills through active participation
- Strengthen the connection between young people and their community
How the Youth Council Works
The Youth Council will operate similarly to the Parish Council, with:
🗳 Elected Members – Young people who take on different roles, such as Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer. Members will be elected by their peers or appointed based on applications it receives.
📅 Regular Meetings – The council will meet regularly to discuss youth-related issues, plan projects, and engage with member of the community and the Parish Council. Minutes from these meetings will be shared with the Parish Council at its Full Council meetings.
📢 Consultations & Representation – Youth Councillors will provide feedback to Brixworth Parish Council on policies that impact young people, such as education, transport, recreation, and public spaces.
🔍 Committees & Focus Areas – Members may work on specific areas such as mental health, sports & recreation, education, climate action, and social events.
👥 Collaboration with Local Organisations – The Youth Council will partner with schools, local businesses, charities, and community groups to create initiatives that benefit young people.
What Brixworth Youth Council Will Do
The Youth Council will focus on several key areas to improve the lives of young people in Brixworth:
🏞 Community Projects – Improving parks, public spaces, and recreational areas for young people.
📣 Youth Advocacy – Raising awareness on important topics such as mental health, education, and career opportunities.
🎉 Organizing Events & Activities – Planning fun social events, workshops, and sports activities.
💡 Influencing Local Decisions – Providing feedback and suggestions to the Parish Council on youth-related issues.
🌿 Environmental Initiatives – Leading projects such as tree planting, litter picking, and climate action campaigns.
💼 Skill-Building & Leadership Development – Offering training opportunities, guest speakers, and chances to develop public speaking, project management, and teamwork skills.
