Brixworth Parish Council CCTV Privacy Notice
Introduction Brixworth Parish Council (“the Council”) is committed to ensuring the security and privacy of individuals within areas monitored by our Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems. This privacy notice outlines how we collect, use, and protect personal data obtained through our CCTV operations.
Purpose of CCTV Monitoring The Council operates CCTV systems for the following purposes:
- Enhancing public safety and security.
- Preventing, detecting, and reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.
- Protecting Council assets, property, and infrastructure.
- Assisting law enforcement with investigations and evidence gathering.
- Managing public spaces for the safety of the community.
Legal Basis for Processing The use of CCTV is based on the Council’s legitimate interests in protecting property, public safety, and preventing crime. Processing is conducted in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Location of CCTV Cameras CCTV cameras are installed in key locations within Brixworth Parish, including but not limited to:
- St David’s Recreation Ground
- Brixworth Community Centre (Internal & External)
- Other Council-owned facilities and public spaces
Data Retention and Security
- CCTV footage is retained for 30 days unless required for an ongoing investigation.
- Access to footage is restricted to authorised personnel only.
- Data is securely stored and protected against unauthorised access.
Access to Footage and Subject Rights
- Individuals have the right to request access to personal data captured by CCTV through a Subject Access Request (SAR).
- Requests must include the date, time, and location of the incident to help identify relevant footage.
- The Council will respond to SARs within 30 calendar days.
- The Council may refuse requests if providing access would compromise another person’s privacy or an active investigation.
Sharing of Data
- CCTV footage may be shared with law enforcement agencies for crime prevention and investigation purposes.
- Footage will not be shared with third parties unless legally justified.
