Election Results – 1st May 2025
Brixworth Parish Council has fourteen serving councillors. At the 2025 elections, eleven councillors were elected. One of those elected members has since resigned, and the vacancy was filled through co‑option. As of January 2026, the Council is made up of ten elected councillors and four co‑opted councillors.
Two‑Thirds Rule (General Power of Competence)
To use the General Power of Competence, a parish council must have at least two‑thirds of its councillors elected, not co‑opted.
For Brixworth Parish Council (14 seats), this means the council must have at least 10 elected councillors.
As of January 2026, Brixworth has 10 elected councillors and 4 co‑opted councillors, so the council meets the two‑thirds requirement.

An uncontested election happens when the number of candidates standing for election is equal to, or fewer than, the number of available seats. In these circumstances, no public vote is required because all candidates are automatically elected. This is a normal and lawful outcome under electoral regulations, and it simply means that the individuals listed in the official notice have been returned as parish councillors without the need for a poll. It ensures the council can continue its work with a full membership, even when a competitive election is not necessary.
Nominations for Parish Council Seats will be accepted ahead of the upcoming Town and Parish Council Elections, which are scheduled to take place on Thursday, 1st May 2025.
On this date, voters will have the opportunity to elect candidates to fill:
- All Parish Council Seats
- All of West Northamptonshire Council’s Seats: The elections will also elect 76 councillors to represent 35 wards across West Northamptonshire.
The Notice of Election has now been published.

Nominations to become a Parish Councillor
If you are interested in joining Brixworth Parish Council and stand for election you will need to complete a nomination form which you can download below or from the Electoral Commission website.
To become nominated as a candidate at a parish council election in England, you need to submit a completed set of nomination papers to the place fixed by the Returning Officer by 4pm, 19 working days before the poll – Wednesday 2nd April 2025.
This deadline is set out in law and cannot be changed for any reason.
The start date from which you will be able to submit nomination papers, as well as the times and place for delivery, will be set out in the notice of election published by the local Returning Officer.
There are three nomination papers that you must submit to make your nomination valid:
- the nomination form
- a home address form
- your consent to nomination
Guidance for completing the nomination documents can be found here: The nomination form | Electoral Commission
The Good Councillors Guide to Finance 2025
Submitting your nomination papers
It is your responsibility to ensure that your nomination papers, including the home address form and the consent to nomination, and where you are standing on behalf of a party, the certificate of authorisation and emblem request form, are delivered to the place specified on the notice of election by 4pm, 19 working days before the poll – Wednesday 2nd April 2025. The nomination form, the home address form and consent to nomination must be delivered by hand. It cannot be submitted by post, fax, e-mail or other electronic means. The original version of each completed paper must be submitted.
For example, a certificate of authorisation which has been sent as an attachment to an email to be printed out would make it a ‘copy document’ and not the original document.
We recommend that you or someone you trust delivers them, so you can be sure they are delivered to the Returning Officer in time.
You should contact the RO as soon as possible to find out what arrangements are in place for submitting nomination papers.
The RO can hold your nomination paper invalid if the particulars of your nomination are not as required by law. The RO can also reject your nomination if they conclude that it is clearly a sham, for example, if an obviously fictitious name is provided.
